Introduction to Critical Care Nursing

This course is designed to prepare nurses to work in Telemetry and step down ICU Units. This course will help with transition from basic medical surgical nursing to more advanced practice patient care. Emphasis is placed on cardiac physiolgy and pathophysiology, and thier interrelation with other disease sequelae. Basic anatomy, physiology and treatment rationale are discussed for the cardiac, pulmonary, renal, endocrine and neurological systems. You should have a basic understanding of EKG's and be ACLS Certified before taking this course

Course Topics:

  • Cardiac MI, Myopathy, CHF interventions: PT, CA,PCI and Fibrinolytics
  • Care of the cardiac patient after electricl interventions: Angiogram Ablation and Pacemaker indications and treatment modalities
  • Respiratory ABG's, O2 therapy and pharmacology interventions for COPD, Asthma, and PE
  • Renal & Endocrine DM, HHNS, CRI and CRF
  • Neuro: CVA Ischemia vs. Bleed : Treatment Modalities
